Moreover, electrophysiological evidence of goal-related modulation of neuronal activity supported the existence of a time-resolved mechanism that encodes temporal relations. This goal-related modulation developed over time, providing evidence for the existence of threshold scheduling, but not of clock signaling. We found that monkey’s behaviour was statistically modulated by goal-related information. We tested these hypotheses in non-human primates, by combining behavioural and electrophysiological recording methods. Threshold scheduling determines when to make a decision, whereas clock signaling provides a time-resolved basis for the decision. Here we propose a conceptual framework for a deliberate decision-making process with two independent mechanisms: threshold scheduling and clock. Previous neurophysiological evidence indicated that goal-oriented decision-making may be associated with timing processing of the goal-related information.
